(Washington, D.C.) — Founders Bank (in organization) founding director Domingo Rodriguez, a banking leader in the Washington region for more than 40 years, died at his home in Germantown, MD, January 20, 2020. He was 71. Mr. Rodriguez served as the bank’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) until the onset of his illness.
Mr. Rodriguez’s extensive experience in strategic financial planning, risk management and controls, asset liability management and investment portfolio expertise were instrumental to the formation of Founders Bank. As a seasoned banking professional, Mr. Rodriguez possessed a deep market knowledge of the financial needs of the Washington region and its residents. His professional acuity and commitment to clients, employees, and investors was an inspiration to his colleagues.
Prior to serving as the CFO and founding director of Founders Bank, Mr. Rodriguez served as CFO at four community banks in the Washington Metropolitan area that ranged from $120 million to $4.3 billion in asset size. From 2005 to 2016, Rodriguez served as CFO and Chief Operating Officer for Bank of Georgetown until it was acquired by United Bank. He also held CFO positions with Cardinal Bank in Tyson’s Corner, Va., Sequoia Bank in Bethesda, Md., and Grand Bank, also in Bethesda. Previously he was senior vice president and controller with George Mason Bank in Fairfax, Va. Mr. Rodriguez started his banking career in internal audit and risk management, having held positions as audit manager and senior risk officer.
Mr. Rodriguez earned a bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a graduate degree of the School of Banking, University of Wisconsin in Madison. A certified public accountant, Mr. Rodriguez was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Rodriguez was active in various charitable and not-for-profit organizations in the D.C. area. At the time of his death, Mr. Rodriguez was vice-chair of the Board of Directors of Martha’s Table in Washington D.C. where he had served on the board since 2007. He also served on the Board of Directors of Capital Impact Partners and the Board of Trustees of Trinity Washington University, Washington, D.C. Previously, Mr. Rodriguez served as director and treasurer of the Prince George’s Financial Services Corporation, an entity that provided special financing for small and minority-owned businesses.
